Contact Lenses

Dr. Weaver especially enjoys fitting patients with contact lenses. He loves seeing his patients’ excitement when they first experience the freedom of great vision while not wearing glasses.

One common misconception about contact lenses is that a person is too young/old to wear contacts. There are so many healthy contact lenses options out there that age is not a limitation. As long as the patient is motivated and cares properly for their lenses, Dr. Weaver has fit patients as young as eight-years-old.

Another misconception is that many people believe they are not candidates based on an astigmatism or bifocal correction. Since contact lens technology rapidly evolves, there are many 1-day disposable, two-week disposable, monthly disposable and overnight wear lenses available for all prescriptions, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.

The practice not only deals with soft contact lens fits, but also rigid gas permeable (hard) contact lenses and challenging fits to provide optimal vision for patients with keratoconus, post-surgical corneal distortion and other corneal disease.

After speaking with the doctor at your examination, Dr. Weaver will review the best contact lens options customized to fit your needs.

Dry Eyes

With increased near work and screen time at work, school, and home, dry eye is a prevalent problem. Significant advances have occurred in our understanding of dry eye and ocular surface disease. Dry eye disease can present itself in a variety of symptoms, such as blurred vision, fluctuating vision, redness, foreign body sensation, watering, sandy-gritty feeling, itching, burning, irritation, pain, and light sensitivity. Dry eye can range from mildly annoying to completely disruptive and life-altering.

Dr. Weaver welcomes patients with long-standing complex dry eye disease, many of whom had consulted with other eye doctors before coming to our practice. These patients are frustrated and are looking for answers to their chronic condition, answers to questions like:

  • Why do my eyes feel dry when I wake up in the morning?

  • Why does my vision get blurry after reading for only 10-15 minutes?

  • Why do my eyes experience burning when using a computer?

  • Why are my eyes always red?

  • Why can't I wear my contact lenses until the end of the day?

Dr. Weaver will carefully assess your dry eye condition and come up with a personalized treatment plan just for you to get you on the right path of clear, comfortable, and stable vision.

LASIK and Cataracts

Dr. Weaver works exclusively with reputable LASIK surgeons in the area, referring patients to ophthalmologists who are corneal specialists and have extensive experience with LASIK refractive surgery. Dr. Weaver can discuss and review your candidacy for having LASIK performed and participate with your pre- and post-operative surgical care.

For any patient with cataracts, glaucoma or retinal ocular disease who reaches a point where he/she needs surgical intervention, Dr. Weaver refers to his team of carefully-selected, caring and experienced ophthalmology specialists in the Wyomissing/Reading area for a consultation.

Children’s Exams

Vision is paramount in a young child’s life. Any issues with vision, focusing or eye tracking abilities can directly cause reading and/or learning disabilities. Many times serious vision problems can go undetected without a proper, comprehensive eye examination.

Dr. Weaver understands the critical nature of an early child’s vision development and the importance of annual eye examinations for children of all ages. The practice sees children of all ages, from month-old infants to teenagers entering college. For young children who are not able to verbalize, we use special vision charts, tools and objective techniques to determine a child’s ocular health and vision status.

The most common question we receive from parents is: “At what age should I bring my kid in to the office to check their eyes?” If your child has never had a complete eye exam with an optometrist, the answer is NOW. If your child is about to start Pre-K or Kindergarten, it is in the child’s best interest to have their eyes checked to make sure their visual system is functioning properly for learning success.

Not every child that is examined receives glasses. In fact, glasses are only prescribed to children that are in danger of having long-term visual impairment or need help with the way their two eyes work together. During the examination, Dr. Weaver will also examine the ocular health of your child to make sure they are not affected by any abnormal eye disease.
